Analyzing Titanic - 1603 Words

Analyzing Titanic Social stratification is defined as a system by which a society ranks categories of people in a hierarchy, is based on four important principles. The four principles are trait, generation to generation which extends to â€Å"social mobility†, universal but variable and not just inequality but beliefs.† (Marconis, page 209, para. 1) In this paper I will analyze the movie Titanic and will show and bring out those principles of social stratification and how even though it was set in the 1900’s that those same principles and theories go on even in the present time. Prejudice is a big one in society and goes along with the four principles above and still is prevalent even in today’s society. They were not born into money, but using money to become the elite. It did not matter at the point about love or anything else as long as they were secure financially and back them it was a big deal to have money and social status. Rose was not about money nor was she about fitting in with the first the class elite, she at one point in the movie realizes while watching a little girl at another table going through what she did as a child learning how to eat, use silverware and how to sit, walk and talk she realizes that status does not matter that happiness does and that even with money and social status you can still be trapped and still not fit in with the realms of society. Cal on the other hand is within the caste system of class and therefore is all about money and social status and what society thinks. He thinks that money can buy anything and at the level certain things are expected from others. I find this kind of attitude appalling and so tired of society allowing this kind of behavior fr om people with money and treating others differently because we’re not in that social class or have that type of money. People should be treated equal. Another thing in the movie that was appalling but another truth of the matter that more people could have survived on the Titanic had they had the socialShow MoreRelatedHumans Strive For Prominence, And Recognition1261 Words   |  6 Pagesprominence, and recognition. A Report On Tom s Family - 1053 Words

Earlier in the year I was contacted by a secondary school as they were concerned about one of their students, 14 year old Tom* (*not his real name). Tom was physically and verbally abusive at both home and school, and was displaying disturbing behaviours. Tom had high absentees and was fixated with electronic devices, regularly accessing inappropriate websites. Recently Tom’s cat was found dead with a broken neck and covered in blood. Adolescence is a time of emotional, cognitive and physical development as the adole scent moves from being a child to an adult (Carr, Eshkevari Kosky, 1991). Erikson (1968) believed that adolescence is a time of identity crisis. As the adolescent moves from childhood to adulthood they experiment with different identities until they form an identity which is their true self. This is known as identity formation (Becht, Branje, Denissen, Koot, Meeus, Nelemans Vollebergh, 2016). Adolescents require a secure attachment and a safe family unit (or equivalent) in order to work through the turmoil of adolescence. The journey of self-identity is based on who the adolescent was in the past and the present. If the adolescent had a secure attachment in the past, they are able to move from identity crisis to identity formation in the present and develop into a health adult. However, if the past had no loving or safe environment for the adolescent, the adolescent has no one in the present to help them set limits or give directions (Markland Nelson, 1994). This appeared to be the case with Tom. As Tom’s mother is mentally ill, it would be safe to assume Tom’s needs are not currently met, nor were they met in the past. Nokero case study free essay sample

Nokero is a global enterprise that design, manufactures and distributes safe, affordable and environmentally friendly solar based technologies. The use of solar energy eliminates the need to use harmful substances such as kerosene to light up homes as they have a negative impact on the surrounding environment and the health of those in it. What market segments should the company focus on for profitable growth? Market segments involves dividing the broader global market into sub markets which contain consumers with similar requirements. Nokero can quite easily split the market geographically in order to sell to parts of the world with lower incomes and lower living standards. These regions might include large parts of Africa as a lot of the rural areas are deprived with a lot of people living in absolute as well as relative poverty. The climate of the market also compliments the product as it experiences high levels of light and sunshine which would increase the productivity and efficiency of the light bulbs. We will write a custom essay sample on Nokero case study or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Another geographical area Nokero should concentrate on is Asia and South East Asia, the reason being that the manufacturing plant is based in close proximity so the distribution time and transport cost would be somewhat reduced making it yet more affordable for those groups of consumers and more profitable for Nokero. Thirdly, Nokero should concentrate on Latin America as it has a big pool of consumers with increasing incomes for whom the price will be more and more affordable over time. Another consideration might be setting up a manufacturing plant that could supply South America and Western Africa while the Chinese plant can concentrate on the markets of East Africa and Asia. Having said all the above, it is quite apparent that Nokero has been concentrating on the market segments mentioned from the get go, but having had the success it has with those consumers, the only obvious move would be to increase their presence and supply into these markets in order to build on their success. On the other hand, the importance of Nokero’s presence in the western world is just as important as it is for the less developed world. The reason being is that the large buyers such as big charities are going to obtain a lot of funding from the western world in order to purchase the lamps. For this reason, Nokero needs to focus on the developed world as it could be a root of their niggest revenues. The fact that Nokero is a monopoly meant it can create brand loyalty efficiently as long as it sticks to its mission statement Create brand loyalty in customers Go to large govts to sell
